Hi,
here is a request of a PyTone user for Gentoo ebuilds. Maybe somebody of you is interested.
Jörg
PS: Concerning the UTF8 Sebastian is asking for, I already answered that the problem are the Python ncurses bindings, which do not support Unicode at the moment.

Hi,
I searched freshmeat for a cli Musicplayer and found PyTone - which is very promissing and might fit all my needs. Now I have two questions:
1. Is UTF8 fully supported in PyTone? I guess it should since ncurces is UTF8 aware, but I'm not shure whether there might be problems with filenames and/or ID3 tags in UTF8.
2. Might there be a chance to get an ebuild for Gentoo Linux? Maybe there is a Gentoo user on the ML how can write one? Could you redirect this question to the ML since I didn't want to sign on another ML? Thanks and keep on the good work.
Regards, Sebastian (Ahhh, You can answer in German of cause, realized to late that you might be native German)

Hi Jörg,
it took some time (my first ebuild ever!) but here we go: I've attached an Gentoo ebuild to this mail - try it and let me know whether it works.
Keep 2 things in mind: a) this really is my first ebuild ever and it still is a bit scary :) b) I have already a lot of packages installed on my system which are required for proper functioning of PyTone - so it can be that my tests pass OK but that the ebuild will not work on a virgin system ... please let me know if something goes wrong!
Steps to install this ebuild:
1. Add PORTDIR_OVERLAY to your '/etc/make.conf' if necessary (in my case '/usr/local/portage/') 1. Create a directory 'media-sound/PyTone' in your ${PORTDIR_OVERLAY} and put this ebuild in it 2. Run "ebuild PyTone-2.2.4.ebuild digest" 3. Run "emerge PyTone -vp" to check and if all is OK "emerge PyTone -v" to install that beast :)
I hope I didn't overlook too much ;-)
Enjoy it Stefan
My very personal wishlist for Pytone - just ignore it ;-) ========================================================= * BPS recognition Show the bits per seconds from a song in the MP3 info window
* Indicate time when playlist will stop Show not only the entire time a playlist will last but as well the daytime it will end :)
* Modifiable playlists Modify/delete playlists
* Pause between tracks

Hi,
I've put the ebuild on my website as well:

Have fun Stefan

Hi Stefan, I can't ignore it :)
Did you look at the sourcecode already (or tried python at all ?) Some of the things on your wishlist can't be that hard and just playing with the sourcecode might help in understanding and implementing your needs.
PS If you happen to go to WTH2005 next week I'm interested to just sit together and look at some of that. Working in person is often more rewarding :)
Kind regards, -- dag wieers, dag@wieers.com, http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [all I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power]

... Hmmmm - I am hardly a programmer and did never touch Python ... but if I find some more time I will give it a look and perhaps a try ;-)

... Unfortunately I do not have the time for that as well :( Maar veel plezier daar :)
Have fun Stefan
PS: Did anyone btw check already the ebuild I offered you? I *need* some feedback before I dare to send it in to the Gentoo developers ...
