Hello,
I noticed before that PyTone locks sometimes when stopped and started again. - Everything starts, but the song does not start to play. At the moment the only solution I have is to shut-down the system and start it again which is anything but convenient.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can I avoid the lock ups or find out what is causing them?
Thanks,
Horst

Hmm, can you describe in more detail under which conditions this happens. I do not observe this behaviour here.
Probably there is a stale PyTone instances running (look at the ps output). Killing them should help in such a case.

BTW I noticed the same problem if for some reason my output method is not working. Ie. when the permissions of /dev/dsp are not correct or I had problems with esound.
Maybe in this case a pop-up window could be helpful. Unless it makes sense to be able to run pytone without playing capability.
Kind regards, -- dag wieers, dag@wieers.com, http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [all I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power]

There is already a notice in the message log. I admit that many users normally don't check the log, but if something is not working, they should do so. ;-) Maybe there should be some kind of indication (for instance in the status bar) that there is some important information in the message log. Note that PyTone doesn't give up when the device is initially not available. Instead it retries every second.
