pytone locks

Hello, I noticed before that PyTone locks sometimes when stopped and started again. - Everything starts, but the song does not start to play. At the moment the only solution I have is to shut-down the system and start it again which is anything but convenient. Has anyone else experienced this? How can I avoid the lock ups or find out what is causing them? Thanks, Horst

Pytone 2.2.3 plays only with debugfile = on!

Hi all, the title says it all :) I downloaded the new Pytone-2.2.3 and installed it on 2 machines (PC & laptop both running Gentoo) and it works like a charm on the notebook but *not* on the PC :( On the PC it refuses to play any music listed in the playlist even if I use Alt+Enter on a highlighted item ... except I use '-d ~/.pytone/pytone.debug'!!! Then it starts to play the music without any problem :) Another problem is that I am not sure if it makes sense that I attach a debug-file because then it works :) I attach my pytonerc anyway ... Any other idea what is going wrong? Greetz Stefan

JumpTo plugin

Hi, I'm writing a JumpTo plugin, which will follow the currently playing song if the playlistwin has focus and a song changes. This is to get the behaviour that the cursor is moving the current song whenever the playlist is begin focussed. As was mentioned in a previous thread, I think this is was people actually expect. pytone memory and disk-usage after indexing

Hi, Back home (after being abroad 2.5 months) I installed pytone on my main music system. This system has 52GB of music (I have a huge collection of music CDs) of about 11.500 songs. Now, most of the music players I know have problems handling that amount of files. Usually this is memory related. Pytone consumes 140MB of RAM, which is compared to other players, not that bad. Some players consume far worse (not even usable with such a collection). In fact when I restarted it it only consumed 15MB residential memory and 183MB virtual memory, before, when indexing, it consumed 140MB of residential memory and 360MB of virtual memory. Furthermore, pytone works pretty well using the interface, but startup time the first time after it has indexed that much music was terrible. It took up too much time. 8 minutes ! After that I restarted and it started immediately. And what might be even worse and probably the cause of this terrible startup time, is the amount of diskspace it consumed to store all the information. When I then restarted pytone again (after it was busy for 8 minutes) the result was: [dag@lisse .pytone]$ du -s * 760 music 17176 music.db 4 pytonectl 4 pytone.dump So I'm a bit stunned about the big difference. What's so different if you start pytone the first time after having it indexed ? Why does it takes so much diskspace and time to start ? I believe this same issue bit me before on my laptop when my disk was full during indexing just because of pytone's logfiles. This of course corrupted the database itself requiring a removal. Hi, Here's a patch to make pytone less picky about section names. I have music-directories called 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a... and the section-names were not allowed to have numbers in them. The error was also very confusing to why it gave me a backtrace. ANN: PyTone 2.2.4 released

Hi, I've just uploaded the long-awaited PyTone 2.2.4 to the usual place: http://www.luga.de/pytone/download/PyTone-2.2.4.tar.gz This release restores the network functionality. Nnote that doing so, I've cleaned up the network configuration options a bit, so you may need to update your config files. It is now possible to display not only the currently selected song in the item info window but alternatively the song currently being played on the players. Various bugs have been fixed, for details see the attached portion of the ChangeLog. I've included the AudioScrobbler plugin (provided by Nicolas Évrard) and plugins for displaying the currently playing song in the X11 terminal title bar and using the xosd program (contributed by Dag Wieers) in the distribution. Later on, they should probably be distributed separately. Alex Wirt already offered to setup a corresponding site. pytone getmaxyx limits

Hi, Thanks for adding the getmaxyx patch. I proposed the values of 27 for height and 25 for width based on my use. (onewindow layout) I took 27 for the height because anything less crashed pytone in the onewindow layout. (Please verify this on your system) Also I took 25 for the width, because that was still acceptable in the onewindow layout. I understand 50 might be more useful if you have the twowindow layout. But it's too much for onewindow. There is also a second issue, on start-up these values are not enforced. I can easily start pytone in a 40x30 window (what I prefer for the onewindow layout). This can cause crashes if this is below certain limits (25x27) Also because this is not enforced there is window-corruption when initiating pytone with smaller than allowed dimensions and then changing the dimensions. Pytone bug in handling truncated files

Hi, I noticed that pytone has problems with truncated music files. Playing some files that hadn't finished yet downloading, pytone uses the original play-length, but when it gets to the end of the file (somewhere half of the original length) it continues (but plays a different song). So suddenly it switches to (what seems to be) a random other song from the playlist. Without fading. Pytone Script and Plugin Archiv

Hi folks, I have plans for a pytone-plugins package for debian, to do that properly I want to setup a website where everybody is able download and to provide own plugins. To get a start I ask you to send me your plugins or scripts you have written for pytone. Later the archiv will be a darcs repo and everybody should be able to send me the stuff via darcs --send :). But at first I want to have some scripts for the initial archiv. So, if you have written something for pytone and you think it could be usefull to others, please send me.
